MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
After 165 years the burial site of Henry Easterling (son of Rev. Henry) has been honored with a tombstone. Records within the Bureau of Land Management reveal that the land was deeded to Henry on July 24, 1820 in Perry County, Mississippi and was 79.42 acres . The burial site was located/identified about 15-18 years ago and an effort was started by a considerable number of descendants to raise the necessary funding to erect a marker. The funding was raised by donations, but finding someone to undertake the time-consuming project continued to be unsuccessful.
About a year ago a devoted family member, EDITH EASTERLING JAMES, who is the owner of the location, made a commitment to undertake the task and it is now completed. Edith is a retired school teacher and resident of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. What a job!
The burial site is located in Perry County, Mississippi in a very wooded area about seven miles South of Runnelstown and about five miles North of New Augusta, Mississippi on Highway 29. There is a fenced-in cemetery...Draughn Cemetery...but the burial site of Henry is located outside of this area. Edith has had a sign made and placed along the Highway with an arrow pointing to the site. The location is quite easy to find.
It is difficult to find the words to express our appreciation for the time consuming effort that Edith has dedicated herself to in order to complete this wonderful task.
