Easterling Soldiers In the Civil War, by EFGS family member Roy T. Wise.

Quoting from the book's Preface:

"This is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. On April 12, 1861 the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter in the Charleston Harbor. That began the fierce conflict that would consume our nation for four years. For four years and five Aprils the young men of this nation fought. The conflict ended on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA. In the South most able bodied men enlisted in the military. We have read history books about the battles, but this book personalizes it. These are the stories of our Easterling kin in that epic battle. Surviving military records give the names of Easterling Soldiers, the day, the place, and the officer who enlisted them. It gives details about what happened to each. for twenty-one Easterling men it gives their death date. Many Civil War records have been lost. Surviving records are in the National Archives and are now on the web. These tidbits of information give a glimpse of Easterlings in that war. If you had a (great) Grandfather or (great) Uncle in that war, this is an opportunity to learn about this experience. Attached are summaries of all Easterling soldiers in the Civil War from the surviving records.

As your read this history you will find loyal Easterling men who served with distinction. Virtually every Easterling man ages 18- 35 enlisted. Some older and younger also signed up. I wrote this book to honor the service of the Easterling soldiers. During the next four years, news articles will highlight key events of the Civil War as each hits its 150th anniversary. An example is the 150th anniversary of the fall of Vicksburg, MS on 4 Jul 1863. Fourteen Easterling soldiers were captured and became POWs that day. "
